Law’s Fragile State: Colonial, Authoritarian, and Humanitarian Legacies in Sudan (Cambridge University Press, 2013) by Mark Fathi Massoud, assistant professor of politics and legal studies at UC Santa Cruz, has received honorable mention for the American Political Science Association’s C. Herman Pritchett Prize that honors the best book on law and courts published in the previous year.
Typically, the best-book award goes to a single book but occasionally the APSA also awards an honorable mention. The award was presented at the APSA annual conference in Washington, D.C. the end of last month.
Founded in 1903, APSA is the leading political science professional association, and its annual conference is among the world’s largest gatherings of political scientists.
In May, Law's Fragile State received the Herbert Jacob Book Prize from the Law and Society Association for the best book in law and society published in 2013.
The book was released in paperback this summer.
