Bashir ordered the reopening of the border with South Sudan

KHARTOUM (AFP) - President Omar al-Bashir on Sunday to reopen the land and river borders with South Sudan, as official radio reported, in a move track Addis Ababa agreements signed by the two parties in recent weeks.

The agency quoted Ambassador Juba as saying after the meeting that the research dealt with "arrangements implementation of the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement by the parties next to the outstanding issues of the border and Abyei," the disputed border area between the two parties.

The announcement comes about reopening the border after signing Bashir and Salva Kiir in the September 27 protocol of cooperation and security agreement at the end of arduous negotiations lasted four days in Addis Ababa, allowing ease tensions between the two countries after battles between their forces on the border.
But Khartoum and Juba have yet to agree on sensitive issues concerning the status of the disputed region of Abyei and the demarcation of their common border, which is outstanding issues since the independence of South Sudan in July 2011 and almost controversy around that could develop into a war between the two countries in the spring.
In March / April last two battles along the border between the two countries, raising fears of worsening and development to full-scale war between the two parties. As a result, the UN Security Council issued in May Resolution No. 2046, which ordered an immediate halt to Adaúaat and solve disputed issues negotiations brokered by the African Union.
In September last Juba, Sudan accused the closure of the border. The spokesman said at the time the Government of Southern Sudan Barnabas Benjamin that "Khartoum suddenly shut our borders through which we receive most of the manufactured goods."
