Khartoum-Halfa Train Resumes Travels
Khartoum – Khartoum Railway Corporation resumed travels from Khartoum to Halfa after halt of more than thirteen years.
Railway Manager, Makawi Mohamed Awad said that the corporation has maintained the line two months ago.
Minister of Transport, Ahmed Babiker Nahar said the ministry is working to replace the old railway to normal after the maintenance and rehabilitation of some stalled trains and the introduction of new modules for linking between Khartoum and Atbara.
He confirmed expansion and development of new lines between Sudan and Egypt to facilitate the movement of passengers and goods. The minister said that the cost of rail transport is cheaper, besides safety of passengers.
Nahar said that operating of Halfa train has positive meanings, where railway management was able to repair locomotives stalled for a long time, in spite of the economic conditions experienced by the country.
The director of the railway said that the recovery of Abu Hamad areas due to gold mining will reflect positively on the railway line.
